SF0056-Kratom Product Regulation

***LAC is the Legislative Action Committee of the RWSC (Republican Women of Sheridan County).  Below is the main message showing our position and reasons why we support or oppose a bill. 

We oppose SF0056 Kratom product regulation for the following reasons:

· The amendment to make Kratom& Tianeptine products illegal in Wyoming was not approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. They removed PROHIBIT and kept REGULATE.  

· Kratom contains alkaloids that can produce effects like opioids, raising concerns about potential addiction. Tianeptine is also called “Gas Station heroin” because of its opioid effect and addiction.

· Mayo Clinic describes kratomas unsafe and ineffective, citing potential risks including addiction, severe health effects, and overdose. It warns that kratom may contain unregulated amounts of active ingredients and contaminants. It also notes a lack of comprehensive clinical trials to validate kratom’s benefits for conditions such as pain relief, opioid withdrawal or other medical uses.

· Adverse side effects from kratom use include nausea, vomiting, high blood pressure, and liver damage. Kratom is already banned in 6 states.

· Kratom& Tianeptine need to be made ILLEGAL not just regulated.
