***LAC is the Legislative Action Committee of the RWSC (Republican Women of Sheridan County). Below is the main message showing our position and reasons why we support or oppose a bill.
We oppose HB0017-Select Committee on Blockchain and Emerging Technologies. Please Vote “NO” on HB0017.
· This bill creates an environment of experimenting in the digital space with public funds and is requesting more authority not granted in the original intent of the law.
· The Select Committee is rushing into greater authority and autonomy at a time when greater disclosure, transparency, and accountability to the Minerals committee and public should be required.
· This entire endeavor involves unproven, emerging technology relating to a digital asset/identity space with many long-range consequences and possible losses to the public treasury.
· This committee wants to expand its role in promoting digitalizing public data in Wyoming and seemingly seeks to establish itself as the information gatekeeper. Some digital innovations discussed include digitalizing all personal data, all property, all documents on the blockchain, and the ability to share data between any government agency.
· This bill also requires the Wyoming Stable Token Agency be a direct report, eliminating oversight over the publicly funded venture capital endeavor. The risky endeavor is cost intensive with no guarantee of returns, but great possibility of loss.
· The Wyoming Republican Platform warns that the Government’s undue interference in the market, as well as the fiscal irresponsibility of government, results in economic inequity.
