***LAC is the Legislative Action Committee of the RWSC (Republican Women of Sheridan County). Below is the main message showing our position and reasons why we support or oppose a bill.
We support HB0010-Sexually explicit materials in libraries-requirements for the following reasons:
• This bill prohibits sexually explicit material from school libraries and minor children’s sections in public libraries.
• Libraries must have an established process to challenge such material, determine its location, render a written decision within 60 days and are subject to lawsuit if not followed.
• Sheltering children from sexually explicit material is responsible safeguarding. Wyoming children deserve libraries that prioritize their protection by moving this material to adult sections, upholding intellectual freedom, while honoring parental rights and family values.
• Just as Wyoming statute prohibits minors from accessing nicotine, alcohol, and tattoos, and like movie theaters that enforce age restrictions, libraries should shield children from sexually explicit material they lack the maturity to process. Parents alone hold the authority to decide what their children read and can seek alternative sources if desired.
• The Wyoming Republican Platform states on principal that the traditional family is the best institution and is the authority providing children with education and training.
